The Gentle Modern School of Dog Training - Bellarine
Welcome to The Gentle Modern School of Dog Training .
Our aim is to help you to have fun and success when training your dog using The Gentle Modern Method of Dog Training™.
The school was started in the early 1970's by the late David Weston - pioneer of training using positive reinforcement in Australia. It is now run by his wife, Ruth.
Our instructors are all experienced dog training instructors who are members of The Australian Association of Gentle Modern Dog Training Instructors Inc. The school is a registered animal business under State Government legislation.
What we offer:
- Individual training for handlers of puppies and adult dogs
- Advice about house training, jumping up, mouthing etc
- Assistance with behaviour problems
- Help with creating an excellent relationship between you and your dog
- Assisting you to meet the criteria for entry to The Kintala Club Inc - Bellarine
How we run the school:
Your lessons will be held in Leopold. We have both indoor and outdoor training facilities. The number of lessons is totally up to you- most people come for between 2 & 4 lessons.
Fees: We try to keep costs down to a very reasonable level - the fee is $50.00 for a 50 minute lesson. We respectfully ask that you give at least 48 hours notice if you need to change your appointment time so that we can continue to keep fees at a level which handlers can afford.
You can either choose to book your lessons one at a time or select a lesson plan at the end of your first lesson as follows:
a) 3 lessons for $130.00 (save $20.00)
b) 3 lessons and a training book for $150.00 (save between $26.95 and $29.95)
If you wish to meet the criteria to go on into The Kintala Club with a dog that is too old for the club's puppy training course - you will probably need to have 3 lessons at my school instead of 4 lessons in the club's puppy training course. Naturally it is much easier for you and your dog to concentrate on learning when you have individual lessons to begin with as it helps you to learn the basic lessons.
How to make an appointment:
Please phone me (Ruth Weston) on 5250 5676 or leave a message on my machine. If you can leave a landline number that would be great.
How to get to training:
My address is
45 Bawtree Rd, Leopold, adjacent to the Bellarine rail trail.
Melway reference 469 B1.
It is best if you come from the Geelong Portarlington Rd (C123) rather than the Bellarine Highway (B110). Number 45 is actually marked on the Melways.
Please dress warmly if you are coming on a winter evening.
What to bring:
- At least 300gm of meet cut into small pieces- about the size of your finger nail. We prefer you to bring raw gravy beef or stirfry strips which your dog can swallow quickly and which does not crumble and drop on the ground. If you feel your dog cannot eat beef, please discuss this when you make your appointment.
- A lead. Your dog can wear either a fixed collar or a body harness.
- Please bring your dog keen to take the food rewards we are going to offer him/her.
- Please wear flat shoes and preferably slacks or shorts. Thongs can distract some dogs and skirts can interfere with your dog's vision.
I look forward to hearing from you....
Ruth Weston
