Ideal Dogs of Australia™ Courses

These courses have been developed to assist you to teach your dog to be a well behaved and acceptable member of the community. Handlers will learn many aspects of responsible dog ownership.
The following lessons will be taught during the course:
- Coming when called
- Walking on a lead in a controlled manner and doing sit, stand and drop
- Greeting another dog appropriately
- Learning meal time manners
- Being handled without showing fear or aggression
- Staying in one position for a short time
- Being briefly separated from the handler and remaining calm
- Responding to the handler when distractions are present e.g. cyclists
- Moving through a "crowd" on lead
- Waiting calmly before getting out of the car
- Behaving well at the veterinarian
Courses are mainly run by The Kintala Club and handlers may go on with further training if they wish.
Dogs who pass an accredited course may be eligible for a reduced council registration fee.
6 Week Courses
These are open to handlers and dogs who have completed the Kintala Club's puppy course. They consist of an information evening, 4 group practical lessons and an optional assessment. There will be a maximum of 5 handlers to one instructor. Socialisation with other dogs is an important component of the course.

The Gentle Modern School of Dog Training
Dogs who are too old to attend Kintala Puppy Training can attend The Gentle Modern School of Dog Training and do the equivalent of the puppy training course privately. Lessons are very reasonably priced and held at times which are suitable for those who work during business hours. Please phone Ruth Weston on (03) 9439 8546 after hours.
